Geothermal Campus
As part of the University’s Climate Plan, our geothermal team is exploring the potential to use the energy beneath our campus to help the University meets its Net Zero commitment by 2030.
We are working with partners from the University and industry to make geothermal energy on campus a reality.
It’s important to us that this project is sustainable and provides energy for many years to come. Our goal is to create a system where heat is shared in a circular way on campus—using the aquifer flexibly for heating, cooling and energy storage. This will allow us to set an example for how geothermal energy can be explored, used, and maintained in the long run.
We are harnessing our expertise across geology, geophysics, hydrogeology, as well as geotechnical engineering, building energy systems, social sciences, policy and governance to lay the foundations for how this can be achieved.
