About

About

We are an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Leeds, funded under the Climate Plan. We bring together world-class experts in geoscience, subsurface technology and infrastructure, as well as the social, political, and environmental aspects of subsurface energy and critical minerals.

By combining our expertise and collaborating with partners across the civil service sector, academia, and industry, we deliver world-leading research to advance clean energy and decarbonisation.

Our purpose

We lead the reorientation of research and teaching away from fossil fuels toward a more sustainable, clean-energy future.

Since the announcement of the University of Leeds' Climate plan, we have initiated new research projects focusing on carbon capture and storagegeothermal energy and the energy transition. We have also reviewed our curriculum to ensure we’re training the next generation of geoscientists, engineers, and environmental and social scientists to accelerate the delivery of low-carbon solutions.
