'Voices of Coal' will be exhibited at the National Coal Mining Museum

The immersive art project 'Voices of Coal', in which Prof David Healy and the Geomechanics Laboratory participated, will be showcased at the National Coal Mining Museum for England this week.

Developed by the Time Network artist Debbie Harman, the project explores the future after coal while paying homage to the mining past. 'Voices of Coal' seeks to deepen our connection with the land through sensory ethnography and sound.

The project builds on Debbie Harman’s earlier photography series, Power, which she developed during her time living and working on power sites. Prof David Healy used the triaxial rock deformation apparatus to support sound extraction from the Kellingley Coal for the immersive experience.

The exhibition opens on Saturday, 29 November at the Hub, National Coal Mining Museum for England.
