Geosolutions Leeds: Statement on engaging with energy companies involved in the energy transition

Date

The climate crisis necessitates a rapid, transformative change in our energy systems, and a host of companies will be involved in this energy transition, including those previously involved in the fossil fuel sector. Energy companies that have traditionally been associated with fossil fuel extraction have the technical knowhow and financial resource to rapidly develop and expand deployment of new technologies to address and mitigate the impacts of climate change. Those that are related to our Geosolutions work include wind energy, geothermal energy, carbon capture utilisation and storage, and hydrogen-based subsurface energy storage.

University research is playing an important role, using innovative methodologies, new technologies and toolkits, to accelerate the clean energy transition. The translation of research results into practical solutions within a short timeframe requires an ongoing collaboration between universities and industrial partners, including all companies actively engaged in the clean energy transition.
