Geosolutions Leeds Supports Dr Ru Wang's Attendance at SEPM ISGC 2026

Geosolutions Leeds was pleased to co-fund Dr Ru Wang’s attendance at the SEPM International Sedimentary Geosciences Congress (ISGC) 2026, held at the Colorado School of Mines in June. The conference, titled "Defining the critical role and impact of sedimentology in a sustainable future", brought together leading researchers and industry professionals to explore cutting-edge research, innovative methodologies, and applied case studies demonstrating sedimentology's impact on a sustainable future.
Dr Wang delivered a talk titled “How Frequently Do Submarine Channels Avulse? Insights from a New Analytical Model and Global Datasets”. The presentation sparked valuable discussions, particularly on the implications of the work for submarine geohazard assessment and subsurface reservoir modelling.

Before the conference, Dr Wang participated in field excursions to the Raton Basin and Colorado Front Range. These visits provided the opportunity to examine classic sedimentary successions such as incised valleys, fluvial systems, the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary, and dinosaur footprints.

Dr Wang's attendance was jointly supported by Geosolutions Leeds, the Turbidites Research Group (TRG), and IAG Leeds.

The conference covered several themes that are highly relevant to Geosolutions Leeds, including sedimentary reservoirs and the energy transition, sedimentary systems through time, and remote sensing, modelling, and experimental stratigraphy. These sessions showcased the latest advances in subsurface characterisation, source-to-sink processes, and quantitative sedimentology, providing valuable insights into emerging research directions and practical applications across the geoscience sector. The knowledge and connections gained from the event will help inform future research, strengthen collaborations, and support the development of innovative approaches to subsurface characterisation and sustainable energy challenges.
